History
American Beacon Advisors, formerly AMR Investments,
began providing short-term fixed income client service as an independent
entity in November, 1986. Prior to 1986, our investment officers
successfully managed the operating funds of the Treasury department
of AMR Corporation. Their investment success led to the formal creation
of AMR Investments to provide business management, advisory, administrative,
and asset management consulting services to the American Beacon
Funds, American Airlines, and other institutional investors. Assets
under management for American Beacon Advisors have grown from $4.9
billion for December, 1987 to $61.6 billion for March 2008.
The American
Beacon Funds, with $30.1 billion under management as of March,
2008, were created in July, 1987 as a series of no-load, open-end
mutual funds designed to support a spectrum of investment objectives.
The Funds include several portfolios spanning a variety of longer-range
investments - from international and domestic equity through balanced
portfolios. For the multi-manager equity Funds, American Beacon
Advisors serves as the leader of a team of premier investment advisory
firms. We work closely with these sub-advisors and monitor them
for performance and strict adherence to investment style and guidelines.
American Beacon
Advisors selects equity managers who employ a value style designed
to achieve strong, sustainable returns. Our value style consistently
emphasizes a diverse universe of stocks that our managers believe
have above-average growth potential and are selling at prices below
their perceived economic value. Emphasis is placed on well-capitalized
companies with low price-to-earnings ratios, low price-to-book ratios,
high dividend yields and strong growth potential. Studies have shown
that this investment style has historically produced a total return
exceeding major equity benchmarks, such as the Standard & Poor's
500 Index.
